Another classical way for the design of digital IIR filters is to use discretization methods, based on bilinear transformation or based on impulse invariance. This was already studied in Sect. 5.2.

5.4.2 Direct Design

There is a number of direct methods to obtain digital IIR filters, departing from a known desired frequency response, or from a known desired impulse response. Notice that using the discrete inverse Fourier transform, ifft() , one can obtain the impulse response from the frequency response.
